Isori Companion

Check whether Japanese pages and YouTube videos fit your current vocabulary, then read or watch with contextual word support. Suitability scoring runs locally against the learning state you already keep in Isori.

Checking this browser…

What it adds

  • Score the active page on request using your known and learning vocabulary.
  • Open an article in a focused reader with lookups and contextual progress tracking.
  • See suitability and use watch-along support on Japanese-captioned YouTube videos.
  • Explicitly mine one reader sentence or subtitle into a private contextual card, with optional rendered audio and one still on YouTube.

It complements WaniKani, Anki, and other recognition systems; it does not ask you to move those reviews into Isori.

Permissions and data

The extension runs automatically only on YouTube and isori.space. On other sites it can read the active page only after you press Score or Open in reader. Dictionary lookup and suitability scoring stay in the browser.

If you sign in, the extension stores an Isori session and downloads your compact vocabulary snapshot from Supabase. Private resume progress, explicit word actions, and cards you explicitly mine can sync back to your account. YouTube media capture is separately off by default in the Watch-along cog; it is limited to the active line and private to your account. Contributing a URL, title, and unordered vocabulary counts to the shared Community catalog is a separate, off-by-default setting.

After installation

  1. Open Isori and let cloud sync publish your current vocabulary snapshot.
  2. Open the extension, sign in with the same Isori account, and confirm the known/learning counts.
  3. Visit a Japanese page or YouTube video and open Isori Companion.
  4. In the reader, click a word and choose Mine sentence; in YouTube Watch-along, choose Mine on the active subtitle.
