〜ておく

Conjugation:

do in advance

Doing something in advance so it is ready for later, or leaving something as it is on purpose.

Conjugation rules

  • Put the verb in the て-form and add おく: 買(か)う becomes 買(か)っておく.
  • おく conjugates like a godan verb: 買(か)っておきます, 買(か)っておいた.
  • In conversation ておく often shortens to とく, and でおく to どく: 買(か)っとく, 読(よ)んどく.
