JLPT N3:

no wonder / that means

Draws a conclusion from the facts: "so that's why", "no wonder", "that means".

How to form it

  • Put the plain form before わけだ: 寒(さむ)いわけだ.
  • It often follows a reason you have just learned: 寒(さむ)いわけだ (it's snowing — no wonder it's cold).

Examples

He's lived here ten years — no wonder his Japanese is good.

It's snowing. No wonder it's cold.

Notes

  • どうりで (no wonder) often comes with it: どうりで寒(さむ)いわけだ.
  • With つまり, it restates: "in other words".
