JLPT N3:

because (as an excuse)

Gives a reason as an explanation or excuse, often for something you could not help: "because", "you see".

How to form it

  • Put the plain form before ものだから: 電車(でんしゃ)が遅(おく)れたものだから.
  • Nouns and な-adjectives take な: 忙(いそが)しかったものだから, 暇(ひま)なものだから.
  • In conversation it is often もんだから or もので.

Examples

電車(でんしゃ)が遅(おく)れたものだから、遅刻(ちこく)してしまいました。

The train was late, you see, so I ended up being late.

忙(いそが)しかったものだから、行(い)けなかった。

Notes

  • The second half explains what happened; it is not used before a request or command.
