Says an action is done again, usually to fix or improve it: "re-", "do over".

How to form it

  • Start from the ます form and replace ます with 直(なお)す: 書(か)きます becomes 書(か)き直(なお)す.
  • 直(なお)す is a godan verb: 書(か)き直(なお)した.

Examples

レポートを書(か)き直(なお)してください。

Please rewrite the report.

もう一度(いちど)、答(こた)えを見直(みなお)した。

I checked my answers again.

Notes

  • It is not a plain "again". もう一度(いちど)読(よ)む just reads it again; 読(よ)み直(なお)す reads it again to check it or understand it better.
