JLPT N4:

finish doing

How to form it

  • Start from the ます form and replace ます with 終(お)わる: 読(よ)みます becomes 読(よ)み終(お)わる.
  • 終(お)わる is a godan verb: 読(よ)み終(お)わりました.
  • 終(お)える works the same way and sounds more formal: 読(よ)み終(お)える.

Notes

  • It goes with actions that have a natural end, like reading a book or eating a meal.

Common mistakes
