も
JLPT N5:also / too
Means "also" or "too": what is said about something else is true of this as well.
How to form it
- Put も after the noun it adds: 私も学生です (I'm a student too).
- も replaces は, が and を. Other particles stay, and も goes after them: 東京にも行きました (I went to Tokyo too).
- Two も mean "both" in a positive sentence and "neither" in a negative one: 肉も魚も食べます (I eat both meat and fish), 肉も魚も食べません (I eat neither).
Examples
私も学生です。
I'm a student too.
コーヒーも飲みます。
I drink coffee too.
Notes
- After a number, も stresses how much: 三時間も待った (I waited a whole three hours).
- After a question word with a negative, も means "no-": see 疑問詞+も + negative.
Common mistakes
- Keeping は, が or を in front of も. Say 私も, not 私はも.
